200 Women is a book and exhibition inspired by a belief that you can’t empower women without listening to their stories. Our subsequent idea was to persuade two hundred women in different parts of the world - whether they be rich or poor, black or white, educated or uneducated, famous or unknown - to sit or stand in front of a plain sheet of fabric and to be photographed and filmed while answering five fundamental questions.
Our goal was not to make a book about just successful and powerful women; those stories are important, but we wanted diversity, and above all, authenticity. Two hundred 'real women', with 'real stories'.
Christy Haubegger was born in Houston in Texas, USA. She holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from Stanford Law School. In 1996, Haubegger founded Latina magazine, serving as its publisher, president and chief executive officer until 2001. She was an associate producer of the 2003 film Chasing Papi and executive producer of the 2004 film Spanglish, and has been an executive at Creative Artists Agency since 2005. In 2000, Haubegger was inducted into the American Advertising Federation's Hall of Achievement for increasing understanding of the United States Hispanic market.
