Shami Chakrabarti
Shami Chakrabarti CBE was born in London, England. She holds a bachelor of laws from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and trained as a barrister before joining the Home Office in 1996. Chakrabarti became in-house counsel for British civil-liberties-advocacy organisation Liberty in 2001 and was its director from 2003 to 2016. In 2007, Chakrabarti was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to human rights. In 2016, she was appointed to the House of Lords and became Labour shadow attorney general for England and Wales.
